De-Cluttering Your Cubicle

by Admin June 25, 2012 08:30

Since we’ve recently moved locations, I thought it’d be a good idea to blog about “de-cluttering” and organizing so we can all start fresh. In Eastern practices, clutter is actually associated with the flow of energy not only within our work space but in our life. A clearer area will give you more focus and open doors of opportunities.

This activity doesn’t need to be a monumental task and you can take 15 minutes each day to sort through things.

Tips:

1. Start with categorizing: Trash, shred, file, scan or give away. Chances are if you haven’t looked at that piece of paper in a year it won’t be of use anytime soon. If you’re unsure you can always scan and store on SharePoint =)

2. Create a filing system for your drawers: Keep frequent information nearby and to the front by priority.

3. Create folders and subfolders in your inbox: you can also create auto-rules to keep your inbox clean with items that are unread, need a response or action.

Companies that have taken this seriously include Kyocera which uses a lean practice called “The 5S” Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardize and Sustain. Below is a fun little video from the Wall Street Journal a few years back, a bit extreme yes, but efficient nonetheless!
