At Incepture we believe community involvement is an important responsibility as a company and as individuals.
During the September and October months we are heavily immersed in our annual United Way campaign benefiting the communities in which we live and work. While raising funds to help the agencies that are a part of United Way is important, we believe that volunteering our time to do various activities to benefit the community is even more important.
Volunteering has many benefits not only for the group you are volunteering for, but also for you as an individual. Volunteering may introduce you to people you may not otherwise meet.
- These people may become an important connection for business purposes. You never know when you may be in need of a good reference, a connection inside a specific company or someone to pass around your resume when you’re looking for a new opportunity.
- The people you meet while volunteering may also become a friend. Many times when people share the same passion for a specific cause they develop a friendship. These friends can also lead you to other volunteer events that you may be interested in and therefore give you the opportunity to network even further.
- Volunteer opportunities can sometimes lead to new job opportunities. Whether it’s through the networking mentioned earlier, or the actual organization needing to fill a position it’s always possible to land a job through volunteering.
- Volunteering can also help you keep busy. Many people don’t know what to do when they lose their job. A great way to keep busy until a new job comes along is to volunteer your time with an agency you’re passionate about. It will help you stay busy and make you feel important. An added plus is that volunteering looks great on a resume and shows you were still active during your unemployment.
If you’re looking for ways to get involved in your community you can do a quick Google search on volunteering in your area and find an agency that matches your interests. There are many agencies to choose from, whether you’re passionate about animals, children, building houses, serving meals to homeless or reading to children there is something for everyone!
